Uber Insurance

What Is Uber?

Uber is an on demand passenger app that connects drivers and riders. New York City (NYC) is a unique market since it’s the only Uber market that requires drivers to be licensed by the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) and obtain TLC or commercial insurance, instead of regular rideshare or personal insurance. Uber has several Black Car and Livery Bases licensed with the TLC.

Do I Need Uber Insurance in NYC?

Yes. In addition to having TLC plates and registration, the TLC requires all Uber vehicles have black car insurance coverage. Uber cars which have 1-8 seats must meet the TLC minimum liability coverage requirements which are set at $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident, and $200,000 in personal injury protection. Vehicles with more than 8 passengers may have to maintain higher limits.
